The common mistake anyone makes while applying for interviews is to think of the process from your perspective – The employee’s perspective. If you want to be successful in landing jobs, then you need to think from the employer’s perspective and here is how you can do it.
Dedicate the next 3 months towards working on this and you will be well on your way to landing your first job. And here is the plan for it.
Part 1
Start working on your hard skills. This will have to be done in 3 areas
- Domain Knowledge – Master your target domain – It could be Automotive, Automotive Electronics, Control Systems, Manufacturing, IOT, or others… Ensure that you know all that you can about the domain – Not just the theory but the mathematics behind it as well. It’s not all that difficult, if you learn it the right way.
- Critical Thinking Skills – Now this is a little time consuming to master and can be done when you undertake internships under mentors with good domain expertise
- Technical Skills – This is what will help you demonstrate your Domain and Critical Thinking skills. Take up internships that will help you work on industry projects and work on it diligently. The more you work, the more you will master all three skill sets.
Part 2
This can be done in parallel with Part 1. Identify your personal strength and weakness – A RIASEC test can throw light on your personal character profiles. Once you do that your counsellor should be able to identify areas for you to work on.
DO NOT IGNORE soft skills – They are as important as your technical skills.Â
If you think you are not up to the mark with your soft skills, take up some personal or group coaching sessions which will help you prepare for the same.
By our reckoning, the Part 1 activities should take you at least 3 Months to complete. And in the meantime, you should be able to score on your soft skills as well.
Assuming you have done this, what next?
Stay tuned for more on this in the next part of this blog.
Until then, cheers from everyone here at ReynLab Technologies.
