Can Edtech platform remain relevant post covid?

· Automotive service technician

What a year 2020 turned out to be. We lived through the new normal and watched essential service workers fight the contagious covid. We stayed at home, and the home became our school, college and office.

The question I hear most often now is how relevant EdTech platforms and apps will be as schools and colleges partly reopen. It is always a choice between need and want. To answer it, let us look at how EdTech has changed the learning model in education.

How EdTech has changed learning

  1. EdTech is no longer just a “Computer class”. It has become meaningful for users, who can decide what and how they learn. It is more interactive, gamified and data-based, and it has allowed even working people to pick up the skills needed in the modern workplace.
  2. Learning anytime, anywhere and at your own pace is the new mantra. The bite-sized, concise content in learning apps gives learners great flexibility to begin and complete courses at their own convenience, which results in higher retention.
  3. Learning on any EdTech platform has become more visual. Video is the new textbook.
  4. The one-size-fits-all theory does not work anymore. This puts the onus on personalised learning, customised for the student or user, with teachers providing the guiding path.
  5. Being the guiding path is not as simple as it looks. The demand for expert and quality educators has gone up, and they no longer have to be in a single classroom to ply their trade.
  6. For parents, EdTech has given a deeper connection and better communication between teacher, school, student and parent. There are no more shy students or incommunicado parents.
  7. Degrees are online. India's higher education regulator allowed universities to offer lectures that are recorded or delivered through video-conferencing and discussed in an online discussion forum.
  8. Competitiveness has grown. EdTech has played a vital role in the digital transformation of colleges. Starting with a basic LMS, colleges in their EdTech version have morphed into full-fledged online universities.
