From Student to Engineer in 3 Months – Reynlab
· Hero – Key Skills for Automotive Professionals · Life Skills – Growth for Engineers

The common mistake in applying for interviews is to think of the process from your own perspective. To land a job, you need to think from the employer's perspective, and here is how you can do it. Dedicate the next 3 months to the plan below and you will be well on your way to your first job.
Part 1: Work on your hard skills
Hard skills need work in three areas.
- Domain knowledge. Master your target domain, whether it is Automotive, Automotive Electronics, Control Systems, Manufacturing, IOT or another. Know as much as you can, including the mathematics behind it and not only the theory. It is not all that difficult if you learn it the right way.
- Critical thinking skills. These take time to master and are best built through internships under mentors with good domain expertise.
- Technical skills. These help you demonstrate your domain and critical thinking skills. Take up internships that let you work on industry projects and do the work diligently. The more you work, the more you master all three skill sets.
Part 2: Know yourself and build soft skills
This can be done in parallel with Part 1. Identify your personal strengths and weaknesses. A RIASEC test can throw light on your personal character profile, and your counsellor can then help you find areas to work on.
Do not ignore soft skills, which are as important as your technical skills. If you think you are not up to the mark, take up personal or group coaching sessions to prepare.
What comes next
By our reckoning, the Part 1 activities should take you at least 3 months to complete, and in the meantime you should be able to improve your soft skills as well. Assuming you have done this, what next? Stay tuned for the next part of this blog.
Until then, cheers from everyone here at ReynLab Technologies.
