TÜV SÜD Certified Automotive Service Technician: What It Is and How to Earn It in India
· Automotive service technician

The TÜV SÜD Certified Automotive Service Technician certificate is issued by TÜV SÜD after you pass its examination. This guide explains who TÜV SÜD is, what the certificate covers, how the exam is held and how to get there through Reynlab.
Who TÜV SÜD is
TÜV SÜD is an independent testing, inspection and certification company from Germany. In the automotive industry it tests vehicles and components and audits manufacturers and their suppliers. It has worked in India since 1994.
Reynlab is a TÜV SÜD cooperation partner. We provide the training that prepares you for the examination.
What the certificate says
The certificate is issued by the Certification of Persons of TÜV SÜD South Asia Pvt. Ltd. It states that the candidate has passed the examination of TÜV SÜD Certified Automotive Service Technician, in accordance with TÜV SÜD's qualification scheme. Each certificate carries its own certificate number and a QR code for verification.

What the certification covers
The certification covers six areas of vehicle service:
- Safety and workshop practices
- Mechanical and engine systems
- Vehicle electrical and electronics
- Hybrid, EV and powertrain systems
- Brakes, suspension, steering and HVAC
- Emissions, safety and diagnostics
How the exam is held
The exam is a pen-and-paper examination held in Chennai, in the presence of TÜV SÜD examiners.
- The exam fee is included in the Master Automotive Technician course fee.
- The certificate does not expire, so there is nothing to renew.
- The certificate number and QR code are there for anyone who needs to verify it, such as an employer.
Which course leads to it
At Reynlab there is one route to this certification: the Master Automotive Technician course. It leads to the TÜV SÜD examination in Chennai. Other Reynlab courses do not lead to the TÜV SÜD certification.
How to prepare
- Give every area equal attention. The certification covers six areas, so do not leave one for the last week.
- Understand why, not only how. Knowing why a system behaves the way it does makes it easier to explain your answer in your own words.
- Practise writing answers by hand. It is a pen-and-paper exam, and clear written explanations take practice.
- Build safe workshop habits early. Safety and workshop practice is one of the six areas, and habits formed on day one stay with you.
