What a TÜV SÜD Technician Certificate Tells an Employer

· Automotive service technician

When you hire a technician, you usually have a short interview and a set of certificates to go on. This post explains what one of them, the TÜV SÜD Certified Automotive Service Technician certificate, shows and how to check it.

Who issues it

The certificate is issued by the Certification of Persons of TÜV SÜD South Asia Pvt. Ltd., part of TÜV SÜD, an independent testing, inspection and certification company from Germany. It states that the holder passed the examination of TÜV SÜD Certified Automotive Service Technician in accordance with TÜV SÜD's qualification scheme.

The examination is a pen-and-paper exam held in Chennai in the presence of TÜV SÜD examiners. The certificate therefore records the result of TÜV SÜD's examination, not only the completion of a course.

What it covers

The certification covers six areas:

  • Safety and workshop practices
  • Mechanical and engine systems
  • Vehicle electrical and electronics
  • Hybrid, EV and powertrain systems
  • Brakes, suspension, steering and HVAC
  • Emissions, safety and diagnostics

The holder passed an examination spanning all six, including hybrid and EV systems.

How to check a certificate

Every certificate has its own certificate number and a QR code for verification. Before relying on one:

  1. Use the QR code on the certificate to verify it.
  2. Compare the certificate number with the one the candidate gave you.
  3. Read the title and issuer. The title is "TÜV SÜD Certified Automotive Service Technician" and the issuer is the Certification of Persons of TÜV SÜD South Asia Pvt. Ltd.

The certificate does not expire. It records the exam the holder passed, so ask about their work since then as you would with any candidate.

Where certified technicians train

At Reynlab, the Master Automotive Technician course prepares candidates for this examination. Reynlab is a TÜV SÜD cooperation partner. The course page has the details of the course.

Summary

A TÜV SÜD Certified Automotive Service Technician certificate shows that the holder passed TÜV SÜD's examination across six areas of vehicle service. Each certificate has a certificate number and QR code for verification. For how it differs from an ordinary course certificate, see course certificate or TÜV SÜD certification.
